second double chain
now it is time for 4 double chains
for the closure of the ring , the remaining two double chains
which will complete the last pair our four double chains we have intitiated our row, by inserting the hook in the 4th chain of our first "double chain" of photo nr. 3. This will allow it to be lose.
joining into ring
turning owr work on the reverse, we will pull the thread left on our initial ring - image nr. 2
closing this way the "eye" of our square to be
Turning the work back to the front side, we will now move to the 2nd. row, starting to shape our square and, at the same time hiding the loose end of our thread.
Once again, raise 4 chains.
guiding our lose thread along the top of the double chains already made , in torder that it be hidden by the new double chains being made.
agina, two double chains, increasing two new double chains inside the loop made on the previous row,
more two chains for the corner to be, other two double chains still into the loop, always hiding the lose thread
and we continue with the double chains upon every double chain of the row below, keeping to hide the lose thread.
We can see now the first corner of our square to be
and at the reverse of teh work, the lose thread ha gone :-)
Keeing increasing the square, always respecting the initial steps or each new now, i.e. the four chains for the first double chain of the row and its termination by inserting your hook on the 4th chain, increasing the double chains on each corner. Do not worry if you still can spot where our rows begin.
keep increasing the square, row by row. Although depending on the thread and your own way to work (lose or tight) I think that until you do not get 6 rows you have the right size for an adult foot. However, do try with your own foot as I will do.
The "base" of our bed sock is almost done. Well, probably for the most of you this is the right size. As my Cinderela foot :-) has 25 cms. from heel to toe, using this thread I will have to make 9 rows.
Here is, a 9 rows square terminated which fits by foot this way.
and for above. As you can see, if I make another row both sides of the square will naturaly get together around my foot. Time to close the heel.
folding the square in the middle and TA DA!! the junction point is the exactly the mentioned doube chain made with the four chains!
I dare to say that this specific part of the work is the only one more "complicated". If my explanation and the photos do not clarify enough ( I hope that is not the case) and you cannot close the heel without cutting your thread, please do cut it and sew the heel using a needle, by making what I an doing next with the hook..
In order to make the explanation easier to follow, I will be using different colours for each new step from this phase on, so I have cutted of the thread. You only will do the same if you want it to look "slightly ;-) crazy looking at the end.
aqui vê-se muito bem o nosso "ponto alto" do meio, feito com as 4 malhas de cordão e que corresponde ao meio de um dos lados do quadrado.
Here you can perfectly see your special "double chain" in the middle, made with 4 chains on every row, which corresponds exactly to the middle of the side.
by placing our hook on the "rings" made by the top of our double chains we will pull the thread through them.
to the front of our work
doing it again on the next "rings"
and terminate with a slip stich.
keep going along all the "rings" until the loops of the corners.
make sure that both sides are coincident and make two single chains into the "rings" forming both corners of one of the sides of the square.
will be like this
the two single chains made into the "rings" and our heel is terminated! Here you can see the seem perfectly. By using the same thread, nothingwill be spotted when the work streches around your foot.
"opening" our work and we raise 4 chains as we did before on each new row.
place just one double chain inside the left ring of the driection of your work ( being right handed as me , of course. Being left handed will the right ring)
all around up to the end
this time, we will place one double chain on our "ring" and the last one the way you can see
As I will move to the next phase, I have cutted by thread of . You go on, no cutting. Yet.
Checking how it fits...
As you can see , both sides of the square already involve the whole foot . Time to start closing the part of the toes.
Now we just work on one part of our square ( the oposite to the heel). As I have cutted of the thread, I have initiated the row by leaving "behind" one double chain, reducing this way the number of double chains of this side. You, please raise one chain and make a single chain upon the first double chain of your row. Then initiate the row with the "famous" 4 chains of each begining
Agian, as you can see , I am hiding the lose thread along the work. You do not have to do this if you are working with the same thread.
all along the row and terminating one double chain before. This way we are reducing the number of double chains in order to perfectly accomodate our toes.
Here you can see the decrease made I mentioned, making one l chain and than a single chain upon the doublechain of the last row . On the first reduction I have decreased just one. On this 2nd. row we will decrease two.
So we will initiate our row on the third double chain of the previous row.
likewise, we will terminate the row two double chains before.
doing the same thing on our third row. Decreasing two double chains on the begining and other two on its end.
Our work will now have this aspect. For the fisrt time you will be cutting your thread of. Leave a lose end of approx. 30, 35 cms. for the sewing , as everything will be done sequentially.
although not loking that nice the foot is done. On the left side of the image you can see the heel and on the right the thre rows we have increased for the toes.
Now we will start raising chains for the ankle. In order to know whre to start, I have counted how many double chains I had on that side of the square in order to find the middle one and than I "stole" four double stiches to the left side, i.e. I had 40 double chains on the side of the square, so half would be 20. I "stole" 4 to the right half, so I have initiated my new phase upon the 16th double chain of the side. I thing the photo can clear any doubts.
Assim, subi 3 malhas de cordão para além da que já tinha na agulha, fazendo depois um ponto baixo em cima de um ponto alto, deixando um por fazer ao meio, ou seja, ponto alto sim, ponto alto não.
This row will be just loops, in order that we can put through a ribbon or whatever you want. Therefore I have raised three chains besides the one I had already on the hook, and made a single chain upon one double chain, leaving a gap of one, i.e. one yes , one no.
until the exact number of chains on the other side.
Being this amother phase, so I have changed the colour for you to see exactly what is going to be done. You, keep going with the same colour , if wanted.
We will start "filling" the gaps by placing two double chains on each one.
Detail of the last double chain. It will be placed on the chain, not on the gap. This will allow the double chain not to slide.
The 2nd and 3rd. rows will be made normally, i.e. one double chain upon the double chain directly below. I dediced to make just three rows. You can go on raising rows until you consider it is enough.
Once again my changing colour, I'm making the slast row, using a simple "embellishement"
by "laying" the double chains along the same number of double chians on the row below, i.e. I made three double chains upon just one of the row below "jumping" to the next third double chain.
I think the picture shows what I just said.
Concluding the row, our bed sock is almost concluded as well.
Agora é coser a única costura da nossa bota. Começamos enfiando numa agulha de lã os nossos 30, 35 cms de fio que deixámos quando terminámos a parte dos dedos,
It does not seem bery appealing/elegant , I know. But it will embrace the foot like a glove. Now we sew the only seem of the bed sock. Start by putting the 30/35 cms. of thread you left when we have terminated the part of the toes.
and gently put your needle through the "rings" of the double chains of the last row. I thing the image says it better
Once agian I am using a different colour for you sto see every step. On your work, just pretend that you have not seen this last image.
When reaching the end of your "rings" we pull the thread and TA DA, it is closed! Nice and easy! Give a few stiched to secure and turning our work on the reverse we continue the seem.
Please do not streach your thread too much as the seam must streaches as the double chains...
As I an working with a different colour looks terrible. By using the same coulr it is perfect.
Keep going and the seem passing your thread through the "rings" of the double chains , as the image shows
here you can it it better
and up to the end the same way you did on the part for the toes.
and hiding the lose ends along the seam.
Should you want to use a ribbon, forget this phase.
The last step of my bed sock will be this. A chain long enough to makr a bow. I have used double thread to be more "consistent". made 150 chains. left aprox. 10 cms. of thread free.
As my needle is "fat" even the chain "fits"...
Passing our chain/ribon on the loops made....
Cutting the excess of the thread of.
Here it is. One bed sock concluded. This one of mine does not seens ncie because you can see the stiches. It was done that way. Yours surely will look much better.
"Et Voilá" my crazy coloured bed sock embracing my Cinderela foot. Nice and cozy.
